The Deliberation
Have you ever wondered why hand-picked leadership teams still make poor decisions as a collective? Two or more capable leaders who can individually make exceptional business decisions sometimes just cannot decide together and produce less than what they would have done alone. The question thus far has been whether someone can do the work, but perhaps it is time to also figure out whether people can decide together.

Behavioral variables
The Deliberation is a structured behavioral instrument that surfaces an individual's capacity for compatibility. Participants work through ten collective decision rounds as members of a public planning commission under shared uncertainty.
The instrument captures individual behavioral patterns in a shared decision-making environmentHow they hold a position under genuine challenge
Whether external reasoning enables a change in thinking
Whether they sustain productive engagement through ambiguity and difficulty
Whether they connect immediate choices to downstream systemic consequences
The result is an individual compatibility profile grounded in observed behavior. There is no self reporting or personality profiling. It is a behavioral record of how this specific person functions in the conditions that senior leadership more often than not demands.
Individual Compatibility Profile
how firmly someone maintains a position under direct challenge
whether someone reasons in contingent and conditional terms
willingness to directly challenge another participant
capacity to shift discussion terms when existing frame is insufficient
whether someone sustains engagement after tension or disagreement
active ownership of forward movement and decision resolution
capacity to recover and re-engage after withdrawal
whether someone connects choices to downstream systemic consequences
Behavioral compatibility profile derived from ten rounds of collective decision-making.
The Deliberation draws from four established research traditions: group process and team behavior research, assessment center methodology, top management team process research, and small group organizational behavior research. The foundations of the instrument are not novel. What is novel is the product form — a portable, facilitated instrument that makes live collective decision-making behavior observable, codeable, and reportable in under an hour.
Core Usage AreasEach of these contexts carries the same underlying risk: that the right people, in the wrong combination, will cost the organisation. The instrument surfaces behavioral evidence that hiring, promotion, and composition processes do not currently capture. It makes observable what has previously been a matter of judgment.
Early Access
The Deliberation is currently in playtesting. I am looking for senior leaders, HR professionals, and organizational development practitioners who want early access to the instrument.
Sessions run for approximately one hour over Google Meet. Participants receive an individual compatibility report following the session. There is no cost to participate.
Murai Systems
Murai Systems is an independent behavioral design studio built on a single conviction: game environments are the most honest context for behavioral observation. The conditions games create are genuine. The stakes within them are real. That is what makes behavior in games observable in a way that self-report and structured interviews cannot replicate.
The practice sits at the intersection of serious game design and behavioral science. Not as adjacent disciplines brought together, but as a single integrated method. Every instrument and intervention built here starts from that foundation.
The Deliberation is the studio's flagship instrument. A deconstructed game, and the clearest expression of what Murai Systems is built to deliver.
